Donation FAQs

  • A: Your donation will help pay for the following UMAW expenses:

    - Fairly paying people for admin work, website work, etc.

    - Fairly paying guest organizers/course/workshop leaders

    - Fairly paying UMAW workers who give courses and workshops to the greater community.

    - General website maintenance/other yearly costs

    - Printing materials for communications

    - Web ads to publicize events and recruit more members

    - Merchandising using products which are union-made or made by other fairly compensated workers

    - Rainy day fund

For the past years, we have been operating on an entirely volunteer basis, but labor is labor, and we want to practice our values, so our highest expenses will be paying people for their work.

  • A: Unfortunately, no. UMAW is a nonprofit and operates for the benefit of society, but it is a 501c4, not a 501c3 because some of our activities are political. Because of that, you can donate, but you can’t write the donation off on your taxes.

  • A: Yes!

You can also donate your time and energy by becoming an active member. You do not have to be a musician to join, just someone who supports musicians and allied workers. It is never too late to join, and as an organization we enthusiastically welcome new ideas and fresh perspectives.
